A Mobile resident, Travis Sopson, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and bank fraud. Court records show that Sopson, 45, admitted to defrauding several banks and credit unions by applying for and receiving multiple loans with false documents between August 2022 and January 2023.

United States District Judge Terry F. Moorer also ordered Sopson to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. While no fine was imposed, the court directed Sopson to pay $274,722.21 in restitution to victims and a $200 special assessment.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence. The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Mobile Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Terrill prosecuted the case.
