The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has been recognized with four top communication awards by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The accolades were presented during the annual meeting of TransComm, AASHTO's communications committee. ALDOT tied for the most wins among state transportation agencies at the event.

Tony Harris, ALDOT’s chief of communications and government relations, expressed pride in the recognition: "We’re honored that ALDOT’s communications team has been recognized nationally. These awards highlight our team’s hard work and creativity in keeping Alabamians informed, engaged and safe on our roadways."

ALDOT's award-winning projects included a revamp of its employee newsletter, Inside Lane. Originally a printed publication sent to employees' homes, it faced challenges such as distribution delays and limited accessibility. In response, ALDOT transformed Inside Lane into a biweekly email-based newsletter launched in November 2024. This new format is mobile-friendly, timely, and visually engaging.

Another winning project was the video series "Zero to 60," which features real ALDOT employees explaining Alabama roadwork. The series aims to enhance public understanding by showcasing those directly involved in the projects.

ALDOT also refreshed its Drive Safe Alabama logo to improve readability and brand alignment. The updated logo addresses previous issues with clarity and adaptability for sponsorships.

Finally, ALDOT's Drive Safe Alabama website underwent significant updates to align with its new branding direction. The revamped site offers an authoritative yet approachable platform for delivering safety information effectively.
