The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) released its Small Business Economic Trends Survey for September, showing a decline in small business optimism. According to the survey, the Small Business Optimism Index remains above its 52-year average but dropped by two points in September. This marks the first decrease in three months.
In addition to declining optimism, the Uncertainty Index increased by seven points from August, reaching 100. This is noted as the fourth-highest level recorded in over five decades.
Rosemary Elebash, NFIB Alabama State Director, commented on these findings: "Our small business members are coping with inflation, supply chain issues, and a tight labor market, and that combination makes it difficult to plan for the future."
