A federal grand jury in Huntsville has charged six individuals with immigration-related offenses, as announced by U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.
The defendants, all citizens of Mexico, were indicted for illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported. The individuals named are Adalberto Guerrero-Alba, 63; Gustavo Bueno-Zamora, 59; Israel Islas-Martinez, 34; Benjamin Ulloa-Cabrera, 38; and Roxana Silva-Tejada, 38.
Jose Mena-Villeda, 57, also a citizen of Mexico, faces additional charges for making false statements to a federal agency and when submitting immigration paperwork.
These cases fall under Operation Take Back America. This nationwide initiative aims to combat illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It is part of the Department of Justice's efforts to protect communities from violent crime perpetrators. Homeland Security Investigations played a role in investigating these cases.
It is important to note that an indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
