Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson announced that Taboris Ladale Mock, aged 33, from Montgomery, Alabama, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon. The sentencing occurred on July 1, 2025, after Mock's guilty plea to two counts of unlawful firearm possession. Federal sentences do not include parole.
The case originated from an incident on September 28, 2024. At around 3:25 a.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in a parking lot on Wetumpka Highway. Witnesses reported seeing up to six people exchanging gunfire following an altercation.
Surveillance footage showed Mock firing a handgun at a vehicle before fleeing. Investigators found 24 spent shell casings at the scene. A person inside the targeted vehicle was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.
On October 23, 2024, agents executed a search warrant at Mock’s residence and found a 9mm handgun. Due to previous felony convictions, Mock is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition. He pleaded guilty to both charges on April 1, 2025.
This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice revitalized PSN in 2017 to focus on targeting violent criminals and developing effective strategies for reducing crime.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office; and Montgomery Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark E. Andreu and Michelle R. Turner prosecuted the case.
