NFIB State Director Rosemary Elebash has made an appeal to the public to prioritize local independent businesses during the upcoming sales-tax holiday. This year's back-to-school tax holiday, slated for July 19-21, will cover purchases of computers, clothing, school supplies, and books up to a specified price limit.
Elebash emphasized that small businesses serve as a crucial element of the national economy, stating, "Chain stores and websites might offer some great deals, but local businesses provide unique and personal shopping experiences. Small businesses also offer unique products and better service because the owners are passionate about what they do."
She highlighted the community benefits of shopping locally, saying, "When you shop locally, you help your neighbors keep their jobs, support local growth, and ensure that the money you spend stays in the community."
This year's tax-free weekend occurs against a backdrop of increasing economic pressures on both small businesses and consumers. The newly released NFIB Small Business Optimism Index identifies rising prices as the primary challenge confronting Main Street businesses.
"These are tough economic times for everyone," Elebash remarked. "Supporting local businesses is a simple way we can keep our communities strong."
