The Alabama House of Representatives has approved two bills recommended by the NFIB Tax Advisory Committee. The bills aim to streamline tax-related administrative processes for businesses in the state.

House Bill 230, introduced by Representative Margie Wilcox from Mobile and Representative Kerry Underwood from Tuscumbia, successfully passed the House with a unanimous vote of 100-0 on March 19. If enacted, the bill will eliminate the requirement for an annual corporate report to be filed with the Alabama Secretary of State, starting October 1. The proposal is now pending review by the Senate Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee.

Another measure, House Bill 187, led by Representative David Faulkner of Birmingham, was also passed. This bill allows pass-through entities to file their paperwork concurrently with their annual return. The alignment of the filing schedules is intended to lessen paperwork and lower accounting costs. HB 187 now awaits consideration by the Senate Finance and Taxation Education Committee.

"The measure would repeal the annual corporate report filed with the Alabama Secretary of State effecting Oct. 1," stated the press release.

"The consolidation of filing two forms at the same time reduces paperwork and accounting fees," according to the statement regarding HB 187.
