2020: Southeastern Conference pays second highest amount to not-for-profit executives in Alabama

Genbusiness003

Southeastern Conference paid the second highest amount to executives among Alabama not-for-profit organizations in 2020, according to Non-Profit Light.

Executives at the Birmingham-based organization earned $4,860,000 in 2020.

Birmingham-based Southeastern Conference amassed $728,960,893 in the tax year ending in 2020, spending $696,609,202.

It is one of 724 not-for-profit organizations registered in Alabama.

How not-for-profit executives and staff are paid is an issue consistently under the microscope.

“We urge donors to be wary of charities that pay salaries hovering near or above $1 million,” Ken Berger, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, said. “The purpose of a charity is to provide a public benefit. Every donor and tax payer subsidizes the charitable sector with that purpose in mind, not creating a class of millionaire CEOs.”
