The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced a temporary closure of the eastbound bridge over the Choctawhatchee River on US-84 in Daleville. This closure, set to begin on Monday, October 6, is expected to last two weeks. The westbound bridge will remain open during this period.
The closure is necessary for maintenance work on the bridge deck, which will involve hydroblasting—a method noted for its efficiency and precision. Travelers will be directed via a signed detour using SR-85 and SR-92. ALDOT advises drivers to adhere to speed limits and remain cautious around workers and equipment in the area.
Temporary message boards have been installed to inform the public about the upcoming work. The project, valued at approximately $900,000, was awarded to Comanche Construction of Georgia, LLC from Marietta, Ga., after they submitted the lowest bid meeting project requirements.
Public comments regarding this project were collected by ALDOT in July 2024. For real-time traffic updates, individuals are encouraged to download the ALGOTraffic app or visit ALGOTraffic.com.
