Donald Trump is praising U.S. Sen-elect Tommy Tuberville who at a rally yesterday signaled he would be challenging the Electoral College certification.
“That’s because he is a great champion and man of courage. More Republican Senators should follow his lead. We had a landslide victory, and then it was swindled away from the Republican Party - but we caught them. Do something!” Trump said in a tweet.
The Electoral College is up for certification on Jan. 6.
Tuberville said at a rally yesterday that he felt the election had been stolen.
“We got to grab a hold and hold on, we have no choice but to win this election,” he said in video taken at a rally. “They’re gonna try to steal it; they’re going to try to buy it. They're going to do everything they can - lie, cheat and steal - to win this election, like they did in the presidential election. It's impossible...what happened, but we're going to get that all corrected. I'm going to tell you don't give up on [President Trump]; don't give up on him.”
The senator-elect did not explicitly say he would change the vote, but noted it needed to be done.
“You see what’s coming. You’ve been reading about it in the House. We’re going to have to do it in the Senate,” Tuberville said.
No others Senators have thus far said they will challenge the certification.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cautioned senators to not challenge the vote.
