In a ceremony today awarding Albama’s electoral votes to Donald Trump, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said he will be focusing on election integrity.

“Integrity is vital to providing the public trust and acceptance of electoral votes and provides for the strength and stability of our Democratic self-government,” Marshall said. “For the sake of our country I hope that we'll be able to resolve the questions about this year's elections. Questions which are of great public importance before election day.”

Marshall said the results were “less conclusive” in states other than Alabama, calling into question close vote counts.

“Let us not rest, because as we have seen nationally, those seeking to undermine the Integrity of our elections (have) passionate energy,” Marshall said. “Over the next weeks and months I'll work with the secretary of state and the legislature to determine what further safeguards are needed to ensure that Alabama continues to lead the nation in election integrity."

Though Trump has alleged voter irregularities, Attorney General Wiliam Barr has said the Department of Justice found no widespread evidence of voter fraud.

Last week, Marshall came out in support of the lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to overturn the election results of several states.

The U.S. Supreme Court Friday evening decided not to hear that case.

“Americans deserve to have confidence in the electoral system and in the outcome of our elections,” Marshall said. “All elections should be safe and secure and to that end we ensure public confidence in the outcome whatever it may be. This goal should unite all Americans regardless of political preference as we strive to preserve our great Republic.”
