Work to enhance safety on State Route 20 at Gargis Lane in Colbert County is set to commence next week, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). Motorists should anticipate daily single-lane closures near the intersection southeast of Muscle Shoals, which may cause delays.

The project, valued at $578,374 and contracted to Rogers Group, will implement several changes at the intersection. These include modifying the north leg of Gargis Lane to permit only right turns in and out. Drivers heading east from Gargis Lane southbound will need to turn right and then execute a U-turn at a median crossover located west of the intersection. Conversely, those traveling to Gargis Lane northbound from SR-20 eastbound will perform a U-turn at a median crossover situated east of the intersection.

Additional modifications involve channelizing turns to and from the south leg of Gargis Lane and incorporating an acceleration lane on SR-20 westbound. A full map of the project concept presented earlier this year can be viewed online.

ALDOT expects substantial completion of these improvements within this year. For up-to-date traffic information, visit ALGOtraffic.com or download the ALGO Traffic app.
