A new dynamic message sign (DMS) is set to be installed on I-565 westbound near the Triana Boulevard overpass in Huntsville on Thursday, September 25. This installation marks the final major component of the $5.2 million I-565 advanced corridor management project. The project has already seen the addition of two other DMS, ten traffic cameras, and two stations for monitoring road and weather conditions, along with fiber optic cable and various communication devices.
The location change for this DMS necessitated exploratory drilling and a redesign of its foundations, causing delays in its installation. However, the foundations and uprights are now ready.
On September 25, Stansell Electric will implement lane closures from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., reducing I-565 westbound to one lane between Oakwood Avenue and Triana Boulevard. Two rolling roadblocks lasting about 30 minutes each will occur as a crane lifts the structure into place. During these roadblocks, on-ramps to I-565 westbound at Oakwood Avenue, Washington Street, and US-231/US-431/Memorial Parkway will be closed. State troopers will assist with traffic control. Additionally, the inside lane of I-565 eastbound will also be closed during this time.
The Alabama Department of Transportation oversees this project as part of efforts to enhance traffic management in the area.
