A Marengo County man has been sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison for the armed robbery of a Chevron gas station in Dixon Mills, Alabama. Yancy Xavier Dumas received a sentence of 157 months from United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer after being convicted of armed robbery and discharging a firearm during the crime.
According to court records, the incident occurred on January 9, 2024, when Dumas entered the Chevron Gas Station on Highway 43 wearing a mask. He pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money, repeatedly telling the victim “give me that bag,” and “I’m going to bust you up.” During the course of the robbery, Dumas fired his weapon in an attempt to hasten compliance from the cashier. The victim placed approximately $5,000 on the counter before Dumas fled with the cash using his girlfriend’s car.
The Marengo County Sheriff’s Office began investigating immediately and arrested Dumas later that evening at another gas station owned by the same proprietor. Authorities recovered about $3,700 of the stolen funds from a shed at Dumas’ mother’s residence and located the handgun at his girlfriend’s trailer.
U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined with local law enforcement in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney George F. May prosecuted it.
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime through coordinated efforts such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
