Construction is progressing on the new Tensaw River Bridge along the US-90/US-98 Causeway near Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. The project, managed by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), aims to replace the existing bridge with a modern and safer structure.

The $78.8 million project is being executed by Scott Bridge Construction Co., LLC and is anticipated to take approximately two years to complete. Permits and designs have been finalized, allowing construction to proceed without delay.

The new bridge will include a dedicated pedestrian bridge and bicycle path to improve accessibility and encourage alternative transportation. The structure is designed to withstand environmental elements and enhance safety for all users.

Currently, construction crews are focused on laying the foundation, which involves installing piles or drilled shafts deep into the ground to provide a strong base. Once these are in place, concrete is poured to form the foundation.

Following this phase, construction will shift to vertical elements including concrete piers and abutments that will support the bridge deck. Concrete beams will then be set in place to span these supports, forming the core of the structure. The concrete deck will be reinforced and poured thereafter.

As completion nears, finishing touches such as paving, striping, lighting, and guardrails will be added for improved safety and visibility. Once all inspections are completed, the bridge will open to traffic.

This upgrade is expected to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and offer a more accessible route for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Further updates will be provided as work progresses.
