FOIA Request Sent to City Of Centreville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Centreville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

In a move towards transparency and accountability, we at Yellowhammer Times have submitted a request under the Alabama Open Records Law § 36-12-40 et seq., for specific sales tax records from the City of Centreville's Finance Department.

The requested information includes data on sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. The specific fields we have asked for are as follows: Sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures; the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month; and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the City Of Centreville Finance Department regarding our request.
