Traffic on SR-273/Blue Pond Road in Cherokee County will soon be rerouted over a temporary bridge as part of the ongoing project to replace the bridge over Daniels Branch, located north of Leesburg. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is overseeing this $5.7 million initiative, which began earlier this year with site preparation and the installation of a modular steel Acrow bridge.

The temporary bridge is crucial for maintaining traffic flow on SR-273 during construction. Without it, drivers would face a detour exceeding 40 miles via state routes. ALDOT has announced that traffic will switch to the temporary bridge on Monday and advises motorists to expect brief stoppages and delays during this transition period. For real-time updates on traffic and road conditions, visit ALGOtraffic.com or download the ALGO Traffic app.

Once traffic is rerouted, McInnis Construction, the contractor for the project, will commence demolition of the existing bridge built in 1925. ALDOT expects the entire project to be completed by late 2026.
