Alabama District Attorneys Association: A Prime Day For Scams

It’s Prime Day, one of the biggest online shopping days of the summer! But Amazon isn’t the only retailer rolling out discounts today and tomorrow. Walmart, Target, Kohl’s and many other companies have sales going on this week, too. The Better Business Bureau cautions consumers not to get so caught up in excitement that you fall for phishing scams, misleading advertisements, and lookalike websites. Also remember:

- Professional photos do not mean it’s a real offer. Scammers often steal photos off other websites, so don’t believe what you see.

- Be careful purchasing sought-after products. If something is sold out everywhere, don’t be tempted by a seemingly great deal. Scammers often trick shoppers by offering the most popular products at low prices.

- After you buy, stay alert for scams. Scammers spoof various phone numbers and pretend to be Amazon support.
