U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) addressed the Senate, expressing concerns about what he views as the growing threat of radical Islam and Sharia Law in the United States. During his speech, Tuberville discussed two bills he has introduced: the No Sharia Act and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act.

"Mr. President, I come to the floor today to talk about two bills I recently introduced to shut down Sharia Law in this country. I ruffled some feathers a few weeks ago when I came to the Senate floor to talk about what I believe is the greatest national security threat facing the United States of America: Radical Islam and Sharia Law. The Democrats and the Mainstream Media—they’ve been coming after me ever since I started talking about this subject. But after spending 40 years coaching, I don’t really care what people think about me. I love this country and I wanna save this country for our kids and our grandkids," Tuberville said.

He described support from constituents in Alabama for his stance on these issues, stating that he works for "the great people of Alabama and the great people of this country, not the pearl-clutching media that is out there hammering me every day." Tuberville highlighted that Alabama previously enacted legislation banning Sharia Law.

Tuberville argued that criticism directed at him has focused on accusations of intolerance or Islamophobia but countered these by distinguishing between race and ideology: "Radical Islam isn’t a race, it’s an ideology. It’s a choice. And I would argue it is a cult."

He stated that peaceful religious practice is protected under the Constitution but emphasized expectations for assimilation into American values for those coming to the U.S.: "If you want to peacefully practice your religion, that’s fine with me... But if you come here, you are expected to assimilate to our country and our values."

Tuberville cited statistics regarding immigrant participation in food assistance programs and claimed that immigrants are not sufficiently integrating into American society.

"But beyond the taxpayer concerns, this religion is also fundamentally incompatible with our Western values," Tuberville continued. He asserted that radical interpretations of Islam advocate violence against non-Muslims, referencing conflicts in regions such as Nigeria.

The senator mentioned incidents involving Muslim communities in U.S. cities like Dearborn, Michigan, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He alleged cases where Christian voices were suppressed or criminal activities were linked to Somali immigrants.

"In case you’re still unclear about the dangers we’re facing, here are a few reasons why Sharia Law does not work in a Western society like the United States," he said. Tuberville outlined differences between constitutional rights such as free speech and practices he attributes to Sharia Law.

He further contrasted treatment of women under U.S. law versus what he describes as norms under Sharia Law: "In Sharia Law, women are sold, raped, trafficked... Women are not allowed to get an education or have a job."

Tuberville criticized perceived tolerance among left-leaning groups toward countries with strict Islamic law despite their records on LGBT rights: "One thing I find particularly ironic is how the Left turns a blind eye to the horrible ways LGBT people are treated in countries that follow Sharia Law."

He raised concerns over political developments elsewhere in the U.S., referencing New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

"I truly believe we’re at a crossroads in this country," Tuberville concluded before describing his proposed legislation: "The first one is the No Sharia Act, which makes it illegal to practice Sharia Law when it conflicts with our Constitution... The second bill I introduced, the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act prevents all foreign nationals who advocate for Sharia Law from entering this country."

Tuberville referenced past policies during former President Donald Trump’s administration restricting travel from Muslim-majority countries and blamed current border policies for increased threats.

"This isn’t a Republican or Democrat issue. This is an American issue," he said while warning against following Europe’s path regarding integration of Muslim populations.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services; Agriculture; Veterans’ Affairs; Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP); and Aging.
