The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has announced that work on the Wheeler Dam bridge will commence on Sunday, October 19. This project, which aims to improve infrastructure, involves applying a new epoxy overlay and installing new joints on the bridge. These joints are crucial for allowing expansion and contraction, preventing damage from temperature fluctuations.
During the anticipated five-month project, traffic on SR-101 will be limited to a single lane with an eight-foot width, accommodating only passenger vehicles. Traffic signals or flaggers will manage vehicle flow. Additionally, road barriers and signs will direct trucks away from Alabama Highway 101 and construction zones near Wheeler Dam.
For commercial traffic, a detour is planned using SR-20 in Lawrence County and US-72 in Lauderdale County. Trucks can cross the Tennessee River via the Singing River Bridge on SR-133/SR-157.
