A Selma resident has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possessing stolen mail and destroying a U.S. Postal Service collection box, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.

J’Kwon Tyshi Williams, age 21, received his sentence on September 23, 2025. In addition to the prison term, Williams will serve two years of supervised release and must pay a $5,000 fine as well as $1,180 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system.

Court records and Williams’s plea agreement show that on November 9, 2023, Millbrook Police responded to reports of individuals trying to break into a blue USPS collection box outside the Millbrook Post Office. Witnesses saw a car parked in front of the box with its hood up and several people nearby. When police arrived, those present got into the vehicle and fled.

Williams was identified as the driver who led officers on a high-speed chase from Elmore County to Dallas County. The pursuit exceeded speeds of 120 miles per hour and included driving into oncoming lanes before ending when Williams crashed into a light pole. He and his passengers then ran away on foot.

Police found burglary tools such as a reciprocating saw, tire iron, and pliers inside the vehicle. They also recovered Williams’s wallet, stolen checks and other mail, check-writing paper, an ammunition magazine for a handgun, ammunition, and multiple ATM deposit receipts.

Although Williams and others did not succeed in breaking open the collection box at Millbrook Post Office, inspectors determined it was so badly damaged that it needed replacement for security reasons. The cost to replace the box was $1,180.

Williams pleaded guilty on June 5, 2025 to unlawful possession of stolen mail and destruction of a letter box.

"The United States Postal Inspection Service and the Millbrook Police Department investigated this case," said Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson. "Assistant United States Attorney Paul Markovits prosecuted."
