U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) led a Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee field hearing at the American Village in Montevallo, Alabama, focusing on veterans’ mental health and alternative therapies. The hearing, titled "Separating Fact from Fiction: Exploring Alternative Therapies for Veterans’ Mental Health," brought together medical experts and veterans to discuss strategies to address mental health challenges among former service members.
Senator Tuberville emphasized the importance of community involvement in solving these issues. “Help is on the way. Money is not going to solve this problem. People are going to solve this problem,” he said during the event.
After the hearing, Tuberville highlighted the opportunity to educate attendees about new and potential therapies for veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). “We had a tremendous opportunity today to enlighten a lot of people about our VA and our veterans, about the new therapies and possible new therapies in the future that we can use to save a lot of young men and women that have served this country bravely but have come back and, unfortunately, had a lot of problems through PTSD and TBI,” Tuberville stated.
The panel included Army Veteran Lt. Adam Marr of Slocomb and Dr. Jim Wright of Vestavia. Senator Tuberville also visited the National Veterans Shrine and Register of Honor at the American Village as part of his visit.
Tuberville serves on several Senate committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging.
