U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s Veterans Homecare Choice Act has advanced from the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and will proceed to the Senate floor for a final vote. The bill seeks to expand care options for veterans by allowing caregiver registries to qualify for the Community Care Network (CCN). This would enable veterans to select home health services—including nursing care, health aides, or companion support—from independent professionals.
The proposed legislation aims to reverse restrictions introduced by the 2018 VA MISSION Act, restoring access to homecare providers through caregiver registries and allowing these services to be reimbursed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“When our country’s heroes need medical care in their own homes, they should be able to decide what kind of service is best for them,” said Sen. Tuberville. “This bill fixes an obvious error that’s forcing veterans into one-size-fits-all homecare programs instead of giving them the options they deserve. Having care in the home is an important and personal decision. I’m glad to see this legislation pass out of committee and head to the floor for a vote.Veterans deserve the freedom to choose a homecare provider they trust, and they are one step closer to being able to make that decision.”
In addition, the committee passed the Veterans ACCESS Act, which incorporates elements from Tuberville’s Ensuring Continuity in Veterans Health Act introduced earlier this year. This measure allows veterans continued access to community care for ongoing services, prevents disruptions in specialized treatments from community providers, and offers more convenient provider choices.
Senator Tuberville represents Alabama in the U.S. Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging.
