The Trump administration has reversed a policy that allowed taxpayer-funded abortion services at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), a move welcomed by U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). The previous policy was implemented during the Biden administration in September 2022 and permitted veterans and their dependents to access abortion services through the VA health care system.
Senator Tuberville has been a vocal critic of the policy since its introduction, arguing that it diverted focus from providing quality care to veterans. In April 2023, he initiated a bipartisan vote on a resolution to overturn the measure, which did not pass in the Senate with a 48-51 result.
Following news of the reversal, Senator Tuberville issued a statement: “The Biden administration was more concerned with shoving their abortion-on-demand agenda down the throats of American taxpayers than they were about providing timely and quality care for our veterans,” said Senator Tuberville. “Our veterans have put their lives on the line for this country and deserve a VA that is 100% focused on getting them the best care possible. Finally, we have a President and a VA Secretary who are laser focused on taking care of our veterans, not promoting woke politics. This reversal is a huge win for veterans, American taxpayers, and the unborn.”
Senator Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging.
