ALDOT crews are addressing damage to a bridge and exit ramp at the I-65 and I-565 interchange caused by a steel coil that fell from a truck. The incident affected the approach, deck, and rail of the flyover bridge from I-565 westbound to I-65 southbound.

Crews have patched lightly damaged areas and will cover two heavily damaged sections along the shoulder with metal plates. The outside travel lane of the ramp and bridge will reopen once temporary repairs are complete and the roadway is clear. Motorists should expect delays on I-565 westbound.

Starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow, July 23, crews will temporarily close the outside travel lane for asphalt repair. Permanent repairs for both the bridge deck and rail are planned for a later date. The outside shoulder will remain closed until further notice to keep traffic away from damaged areas.

For real-time road condition updates, ALDOT advises using the ALGO Traffic app or visiting algotraffic.com.
