Demolition work has commenced on the bridge located on SR-243 at Cedar Creek in Franklin County. The 60-year-old bridge, situated southeast of Russellville, is being removed to pave the way for a new structure. Contractor Miller and Miller will oversee the construction of the replacement bridge.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) estimates that the $2.8 million project will take approximately one year to complete. During this period, the road will remain closed to traffic until the new bridge is substantially finished. The updated bridge promises to be wider and safer, adhering to modern standards.

ALDOT advises motorists to plan for alternate routes and allow additional travel time. Commercial vehicles are required to follow the official detour: US-43 from Russellville to SR-13 at Spruce Pine, then to SR-195 in Haleyville for southbound traffic, with the reverse route for northbound traffic.

For updates on road closures, ALDOT recommends downloading the ALGO Traffic app or visiting algotraffic.com.
