Governor Kay Ivey has announced that over $3.7 million in state funding will be allocated to 12 road projects across Alabama. This initiative is part of the second round of funding this year under the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Annual Grant Program, established by the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Act, passed by the Legislature and signed by Governor Ivey in 2019, mandates that ALDOT allocate at least $10 million annually from gas tax revenue for local projects.
Governor Ivey said, "Rebuild Alabama is doing exactly what we promised – fixing roads and bridges in every corner of our state." She emphasized that each funding round brings tangible improvements to both major highways and local roads. "This is a smart, long-term investment at work, and Alabama is better for it," she added.
The awarded projects also include more than $3.5 million in local matching funds from cities and counties. All projects must commence within one year of receiving funds. Since the Rebuild Alabama Act's inception, ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program has distributed over $66 million for local transportation projects.
