The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 65 for the rehabilitation of the Tennessee River Bridges. The closures are scheduled for two nights, with work taking place from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, and Sunday, July 20, weather permitting.
Subcontractors will implement single-lane closures to conduct work on bridge rails and guardrails. Operations will begin on the northbound bridge before shifting to the southbound bridge each night.
Motorists are advised to check ALGOTraffic.com for real-time traffic and road condition updates. ALDOT expects contractor Cekra to complete the $23.7 million rehabilitation project this fall. The project involves repairing concrete and cleaning, painting, and repairing structural steel on the bridges, which are 50 years old. The project is currently ahead of schedule.
