The new bridge on SR-75 over Town Creek at Lakeview in DeKalb County is set to open to traffic on Monday, July 14, weather permitting. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced that the completion of connections from the new bridge approaches to the existing roadway will occur over several days next week. Motorists are advised to expect brief stoppages and delays during this transition period.
Construction and demolition contractor Miller & Miller began work on the $13.7 million bridge replacement project north of Geraldine in October 2023. The construction involved boring and casting eight drilled shafts for a stable foundation and installing 32 massive steel girders to support the bridge deck. The project will continue into the fall as the contractor must also demolish the old bridge, built in 1942, and remove the old roadway.
The new bridge measures 715 feet long, 38.5 feet wide, and 75 feet high. It is designed to be longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor, correcting steep vertical curves on both approaches and including shoulders to enhance safety.
