The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will commence a geotechnical investigation on US-98 at Fly Creek in Fairhope starting Monday, July 21. This investigation is part of the planning and design process for new bridges intended to replace the existing culvert structure.
The work is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, July 24, with daily operations from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures during these hours on US-98 between Veterans Drive/Woodlands Drive and Fly Creek Ave.
According to ALDOT spokesperson James Gordon, "We know US-98 is a busy road, and we’re doing our best to keep traffic moving while we get this important work done." The planned bridge aims to enhance long-term reliability for one of Baldwin County’s heavily trafficked roads.
Drivers are advised to consider alternate routes such as Scenic Highway 98, County Road 13, or State Route 181. Planning ahead and allowing extra travel time is recommended during the temporary lane closures.
