Work has commenced on a project aimed at enhancing SR-69 at Sunset Drive in Guntersville. The initiative, valued at $665,454, is being executed by contractor Rogers Group. It involves the construction of a southbound right turn lane on SR-69 and upgrades to traffic signals.
Funding for this project is sourced from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II). This program was established under the Rebuild Alabama Act of 2019 to support projects of local interest on state routes. The City of Guntersville, serving as the local sponsor, proposed the project and provided matching funds.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has informed motorists to anticipate the closure of the outside southbound lane during construction. However, except for brief periods during final paving, access to the boat launch will remain open. For real-time updates on traffic and road conditions, ALDOT recommends visiting ALGOtraffic.com or using the ALGO Traffic app.
ALDOT expects that improvements to the intersection will be completed by late this year.
