The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will close the northbound exit ramp at Exit 93 on I-65 to 18-wheelers starting Sunday night, July 6. This closure is necessary for ramp repairs and is expected to last until Thursday, July 11, depending on weather conditions.
The ramp connects to US-84 and nearby businesses such as Love’s Travel Stop. While passenger vehicles and smaller trucks can still use the ramp, large commercial vehicles will not have enough space during the construction period.
ALDOT has provided a detour for 18-wheelers: they should continue north on I-65 to Exit 96 (SR-83), use the overpass to turn back southbound, then travel south on I-65 and take Exit 93 southbound to access US-84 and Love’s Travel Stop.
"Closure is only for the Exit 93 northbound ramp," an ALDOT representative said. "Passenger vehicles and smaller trucks may still use the ramp."
Message boards will be placed along I-65 before the closure to alert drivers and guide commercial traffic toward the detour. The scheduled work from July 7–11 may face delays due to weather conditions.
"ALDOT appreciates your patience as we make improvements to the ramp," said an ALDOT spokesperson. "ALDOT designed this temporary detour to keep all motorists safe and complete repairs as quickly as possible."
Drivers are advised to slow down in work zones and adhere to posted signs and detours.
