U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins has announced that $1 billion will be provided to livestock producers affected by drought or wildfire in 2023 and 2024. This funding comes through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP), which is mandated by Congress to address grazing losses due to these natural events.

Producers in Alabama counties that qualified for the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) payments during these years are automatically eligible for ELRP assistance. In 2023, 43 counties in Alabama met the criteria for LFP payments, while in 2024, 40 counties qualified.

Eligible producers with an approved LFP application on file for either year will receive emergency relief payments without needing to contact the USDA. Further details can be found at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/.../emergency-livestock-relief...
