The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) has released its Long-Range Plan for public review and comment. This plan outlines a 20-year vision for the state's marine transportation network, aiming to address the evolving needs of coastal communities in Alaska.
Public feedback is encouraged and can be submitted through the website https://publicinput.com/i56446 until Sunday, March 30, 2025. Additionally, a Zoom webinar will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 12 p.m., where an overview of the plan will be presented. Details for joining the webinar are available on the same website.
Craig Tornga, AMHS Marine Director, stated: “We are excited to unveil this forward-looking Long-Range Plan, which reaffirms our commitment to safety and reliability while paving the way for a more modern and financially sustainable marine highway system.” He invited community members, business leaders, public officials, and other stakeholders to review the plan and provide their input.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities manages various infrastructures including 237 airports, nine ferries serving 35 communities over 3,500 marine miles, more than 5,600 miles of highway, and 839 public facilities across Alaska. The department's mission is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
