Alabama State University issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.
During this most difficult time in the history of Alabama State University and the world, it has indeed been a challenge to deliver a quality education and support to our students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We as a people and as a historically black college/university are no strangers to difficult times, to adverse circumstances and to impediments that threaten our survival and success. From Marion to Montgomery, 153 years strong, we continue to thrive as an institution of higher learning because of alumni like you!
Special thanks to you for showing your love and volunteering to support our students by making over 3,000 ‘Wellness Check’ calls to the students. You encouraged them to stay safe and you encouraged them to continue their higher education at our alma mater while giving them direction on any issues or concerns they raised.
This project was the first of its kind collaboration between ASU and the NAA, which involved one-on-one engagement with virtually every enrolled student. Based on the feedback from the students, the parents, and you, the callers, the ‘Wellness Check’ calls were very well received and greatly appreciated by all. You, the members of the NAA-ASU demonstrated great enthusiasm and great unity in purpose.
Thanks to you, this ‘Hornet Nation’ engagement opportunity was overwhelming positive, fruitful and gratifying. Thanks again….
IT’S A GREAT TIME TO BE A HORNET!!!
