Alabama State University issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.
One of the top awards presented by the Leadership Montgomery organization has been presented to a member of Alabama State University’s Board of Trustees.
ASU trustee Delbert Madison was presented with the prestigious Leadership Montgomery Legacy Award that is bestowed upon a member of the organization whose “contribution through exceptional leadership has made a difference in Montgomery,” according to the president of the organization, Cheryl Johnson.
“Delbert is an example of everything good about the Leadership Montgomery organization. He won this award because he loves Montgomery and has exhibited it by being innovative, thinking outside of the box and challenging the status quo for the betterment of the lives of others in Montgomery,” Johnson said.
Madison was presented the honor on August 5, by Leadership Montgomery officers at his place of employment, which is ServisFirst Bank where he serves as vice president of Cash Management.
“This award truly numbers among the biggest things to happen to me in my life,” Madison said exuberantly.
“My work in the Montgomery community is because my heart is truly in it, and making a difference in helping Montgomery do well means a great deal to me,” Madison added.
Johnson said that Madison dedicated his award to his son, Delbert II, who passed away from a longtime chronic disease on July 14.
Madison said that what he learned at Alabama State University as a student was helpful in preparing him to fulfill the requirements to win this honor.
“The foundation for me receiving this award was obtained as a student at The Alabama State University by its faculty and staff teaching me to be prepared in life with a good education and being involved in bettering the community through volunteer work and reaching out to help those in need of assistance,” Madison stated.
