Governor Kay Ivey has announced the opening of the 2025-2026 Alabama Governor’s App Challenge, a statewide competition aimed at students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The event encourages young people to demonstrate their computer programming and design skills by developing apps in any language and for any platform.
Governor Ivey emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “The Alabama Governor’s App Challenge is an exciting opportunity for our students to explore the world of computer science, develop innovative solutions and showcase their creativity. STEM education is critical in preparing the next generation of leaders and problem-solvers, and this competition encourages our young learners of every skill level to be engaged in the education of the future. I encourage all Alabama students to participate and show us what they can create.”
The challenge seeks to promote interest in coding and computer science across various experience levels. Students may enter individually or form teams with up to three members. Registration must be completed online by January 19, 2026.
LEA Technology Coordinators will assist teachers during the submission process by offering technical support as needed. Schools participating in the challenge are responsible for selecting winners within each grade band before submitting them to their LEA Technology Coordinator by January 30, 2026.
