U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) introduced Dr. Lyle Cain, a University of Alabama team physician and orthopedic surgeon, at a Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing in Washington. The event focused on the potential benefits of sports medicine, nutrition, and supplements for improving health outcomes among seniors.
Dr. Cain discussed how his expertise in sports medicine could be applied to senior care during the hearing. In addition to his role at the University of Alabama, he is also the medical director for Jacksonville State, Shelton State University, Tuskegee University, and the University of West Alabama. He has received several awards for his work with collegiate athletes.
Senator Tuberville provided an introduction highlighting Dr. Cain's career: “Thank you, Mr. Chairman. It’s my pleasure today to introduce Dr. Lyle Cain from Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Cain is cofounder of Andrew Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, where he is an orthopedic surgeon, focusing on sports related injuries to the knee, shoulder, and elbow. Dr. Cain is a graduate of the University of Alabama and University of Alabama School of Medicine. After graduation, he served as […] Chief Resident at the University of Tennessee Campbell Clinic in Memphis before completing his fellowship focusing on orthopedic sports medicine with Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute. He currently serves as a Team Physician for the University of Alabama and as Medical Director for Jacksonville State, Shelton State University, Tuskegee University and the University of West Alabama. He also serves as a consultant to the Birmingham Barons and nine high schools in the Birmingham area. Additionally, Dr. Cain leads an outreach program through the University of West Alabama that provides medical services to more than 40 schools in the West Alabama area.
