U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has introduced the Restoring Lethality Act, a bill aimed at removing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) requirements from the U.S. Department of Defense. The proposed legislation follows Tuberville’s ongoing efforts to reverse policies put in place during the Biden administration that he argues have shifted focus away from military readiness.
Tuberville highlighted his previous actions in Congress regarding DEI funding, stating that he was successful in eliminating such funding from the National Defense Authorization Act last year. He said the new bill is intended to ensure these changes are permanent.
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris treated the Pentagon like a trial run for their latest DEI initiatives,” said Senator Tuberville. “Thankfully, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are working around the clock to eradicate this poisonous ideology from the military, but there’s still more to be done. We have to make sure zero taxpayer dollars go towards this divisive propaganda that distracts from the core mission of the military: to protect the security of the United States.”
Senator Tuberville also emphasized his broader legislative efforts on related issues, including support for American manufacturing and protections for women’s sports at military service academies. He stated: “We need a military that is 100% focused on protecting our country and enhancing national security.”
Tuberville represents Alabama in the U.S. Senate and serves on several committees, including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging.
