The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is set to open a section of the South Linden Bypass on Tuesday, June 17. This development aims to facilitate the construction of the southern tie-in of the new bypass route with US 43. Starting at 3 p.m., a portion of U.S. Highway 43 south of Linden will close, and traffic will be redirected onto the newly constructed northbound lanes of the bypass and a new extension of State Route 69.

This temporary traffic pattern is designed to maintain movement in both directions on U.S. 43 while construction continues. For northbound U.S. 43 traffic, drivers must merge onto the new northbound bypass lanes, travel north to the SR-69 extension, turn left onto this extension, and then turn right to return to U.S. 43.

Southbound U.S. 43 traffic will need to turn left onto the SR-69 extension, follow it to the bypass lanes, and then be directed back to U.S. 43. Traffic will use only the newly built northbound lanes, which are temporarily striped for two-way travel.

Message boards, signs, and traffic drums will guide drivers through this new route as construction remains active in the area. ALDOT advises drivers to slow down and exercise caution.

This change is part of ALDOT’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and improve traffic flow along U.S. 43 in Linden as part of the West Alabama Highway corridor project. ALDOT is committed to completing both North and South Linden Bypass projects for lasting regional improvements.
