The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is advancing its work on the new Intracoastal Waterway Bridge in Gulf Shores. As part of this project, a section of Canal Road will be closed for three days to allow for the installation of steel bridge girders.
According to ALDOT, the closure will begin at 6 a.m. on June 24 and last until 6 p.m. on June 26. During this period, Scott Bridge Company, the contractor responsible for the project, will place large bridge girders over the road. Detour signs will guide drivers to use County Road 4, also known as Cotton Creek Drive, as an alternative route.
This construction phase is significant in progressing toward the completion of the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge. The finished project aims to reduce congestion on SR-59, improve access to emergency services in Gulf Shores and nearby areas, enhance safety during evacuations such as hurricanes or other emergencies, and support economic growth by improving connectivity and transportation efficiency.
ALDOT and Scott Bridge Company have expressed their gratitude for public patience and understanding during this essential roadwork.
