The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is set to start a project next week aimed at improving a section of I-20/59 northbound in Greene County. The project will focus on bridge deck rehabilitation and the installation of new guardrails. The work will span from the Sumter County line to the County Road 80 underpass northwest of Boligee, covering approximately four miles.
Bridge deck rehabilitation involves removing and replacing worn sections of the bridge surface to restore structural integrity. This process extends the life of the bridge and provides a smoother ride for motorists. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16, and is expected to continue until early 2026, weather permitting.
American Contracting & Services, Inc. has been awarded the project with a contract valued at $7.19 million. Drivers should anticipate possible delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits.
