Online Job Ads in February Up 48% From Last Year

Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Sales Representatives Top Jobs in February

MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that as of February 2022, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 93,424, up 48% from February 2021. The monthly total of online job ads for February 2022 is up 11.1% with 30,252 new online ads.

The five occupations with the most online job ads continue to be for registered nurses, retail salespersons, sales representatives, supervisors of retail salespersons, and customer service representatives with 15,783 ads placed for those occupations in February.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

Nineteen percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 18% have salaries in the $50-75,000 range; 22% have salaries in the $35-49,000 range; and 41% have salaries of $35,000 or under.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in February were UAB Health System with 1,714 and Huntsville Hospital with 1,493. The rest of the top 10 were: University of South Alabama (886), Baptist Health (693), University of Alabama at Birmingham (680), Walmart / Sam’s (584), East Alabama Medical Center (529), Regions (497), Grandview Medical Center (491), and Encompass Health (476).

Registered Nurses are the focus of this month’s in-depth analysis by the LMI division. The median annual salary is advertised as $65,649 with 25% earning more than $74,344. In the last 12 months there were 55,538 online ads for this occupation.
