U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) appeared on Fox Business Network with Larry Kudlow to discuss President Trump’s first six months in office, focusing on policy achievements and ongoing political debates.
During the interview, Kudlow pointed to what he described as significant changes at the southern border, stating that crossings have dramatically decreased without new legislation. Tuberville responded by emphasizing the budgetary impact of reduced immigration: “Well, you’re exactly right and one of the repercussions of the immigration stoppage of keeping very few illegals coming to our country—we’re saving $40 billion dollars to this point in this budget. $40 billion dollars. And that’s going to count up. We could not afford for Kamala Harris to win this election because it would have been a disaster, just for the immigration alone, which would [have] just stair-stepped everything to becoming a disaster when it come to the economy.”
Kudlow criticized Democratic policies on sanctuary cities and law enforcement, referencing a recent shooting involving a border agent in New York City and remarks from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. He said: “And we just had this awful shooting of a border agent in New York City. And DHS secretary Kristi Noem correctly just blasted New York City Democrats... He wants to keep ICE agents out. He wants to keep Netanyahu out. He wants to keep Trump out.” Tuberville replied: “This sanctuary city nonsense—it’s unlawful. People are going to get hurt more and more when you hang out in these sanctuary cities... But all they’re doing is pushing socialism, and all socialism is just—it’s communism without a gun, at the end of the day.”
Tuberville also commented on military recruitment trends under President Trump: “Well, I’ll tell you why, people—these young men and women—are feeling good about our country again... They’re doing it for the right thing. They’re doing it to protect our country.” He contrasted current recruitment with previous years’ approaches.
The discussion included foreign policy topics such as Iran’s nuclear program. Tuberville stated: “President Trump’s a peacemaker. He understands sometimes you have to take the tough decision... there is no possible way we can allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon... go in, go out. He set them back probably a year and a half, two years.”
On domestic issues like gender participation in sports and higher education funding policies, Tuberville reiterated his stance against allowing men in women’s sports: “Yeah. Of course, I’ve been on this ever since it started... It’s absolutely insane what they’ve tried to do.” On university policies regarding antisemitism and affirmative action tied to federal grants he added: “Our education is going to hell in a handbasket... 35-40% of the companies in this country have cut out this poison that we’re putting in our food.”
The conversation returned several times to law enforcement concerns related both nationally and locally; Tuberville advocated for stronger protections for officers after recent violence: “It really does have to stop... President Trump has given them authority to protect themself.” Both participants expressed skepticism toward proposals involving social workers replacing police officers.
Senator Tuberville represents Alabama as part of several Senate committees including Armed Services.
