Notice Russell County Tobacco Tax

According to Act No. 89-266 and by resolution adopted by the Russell County Commission, the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR) has been designated as the agency to collect Russell County tobacco taxes. The effective collection date to submit these taxes to ALDOR is April 1, 2023. The appropriate taxes are to be collected and remitted to ALDOR beginning with the April 2023 return, which is due no later than May 22, 2023. The taxes levied are as follows:

Cigarettes  $0.05 per pack

Cigars  $0.03 per cigar

Little Cigars  $0.05 per pack

Smoking  $0.03 per pack

Tobacco  $0.05 per pack

Chewing  $0.05 per container

Tobacco  $0.15 per pack

The cigarette tax will be collected by affixing a Russell County revenue stamp. Taxpayers will be notified when the cigarette tax stamps are available for purchase from ALDOR. Until Russell County revenue stamps become available, cigarette tax must be remitted on the monthly county tobacco tax return via My Alabama Taxes (https://myalabamataxes.alabama.gov/_/).

Please ensure that the person responsible for preparing the monthly county tobacco tax returns receives this notice.
