Alabama Extension Stays Golden, Wins Communications Excellence Awards

8

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System department of communications, strategic marketing and client relations continues to stand out on a national level. The department recently won 16 awards for outstanding communications products through the Association for Communications Excellence (ACE).

In total, the unit won seven gold, three silver and four bronze awards. Two of these projects were also awarded the Outstanding Professional Skill Award, the association’s award in recognition of the projects that were best in their class.

These 16 awards run the gamut, representing many different areas of communications excellence. These include five awards for social media campaigns, four awards related to diversity, four awards for crisis or issue management campaigns, two awards for publishing, two awards for graphic design, two awards for writing, two awards for video and one award for use of technology.

"For the past five years, Alabama Extension has led the nation in marketing, social media, issue management and diversity in educational products," said Emery Tschetter, an Alabama Extension communications and marketing specialist and ACE member. "In the past two years, the unit has earned top honors for COVID issue management campaigns."

Rising Star Award

In addition to the department-wide awards, Justin Miller, an Alabama Extension communications and marketing specialist, was awarded the ACE Rising Star Award. Recipients of this award are those that demonstrate exceptional leadership and technical skills in their communication field, to their institution and service to ACE.

"It is an honor to have my work and abilities recognized by my colleagues from across the country," Miller said. "I would not be where I am today if not for my mentors and the talented people I work with each day."

Miller’s award marks the fourth time an Alabama Extension communications professional has received this award. Past awardees include Glenda Freeman, Maggie Lawrence and Emery Tschetter.

The association will confer awards in June as a part of the ACE annual conference in Kansas City, Missouri.
