U.S. Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) is getting a boost for his support of an Electoral College challenge.
“I spoke to a great gentlemen Tommy Tuberville last night, and he was so excited. He said, ‘You made me the most popular politician in the United States.’ He said, ‘I can’t believe it.’ He’s great. Great senator,” President Donald Trump told WABC radio
In a rally last week, Tuberville discussed his intention to challenge the Electoral College vote.
“I want to do what’s best for President Trump and the people of Alabama and the people of this country. They asked me, ‘Are you going to support President Trump?’ And, of course, I’m always going to support President Trump. He’s the best president of my lifetime and has done more for the people of this country and the state of Alabama than anybody. But we want to make sure we do the right thing,” he said.
The vote is set to be certified Jan. 6. Tuberville will be sworn into office Jan. 3.
House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has warned senators against challenging the certification.
U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) has taken the lead the challenge in the House.
