The Alabama Department of Transportation announced that resurfacing work is underway on State Route 77 in western Clay County outside of Ashland. Crews have started replacing the old driving surface with the first layer of asphalt in recent weeks.
The project will provide a smoother 7.6-mile ride for drivers traveling from Idaho Road to the Talladega County line. Single-lane closures will be required during daytime milling and paving operations, according to the department.
The contractor is expected to complete the work by the end of summer or early fall. The department said, “ALDOT thanks the public for its patience while we work to upgrade this important connection in western Clay County.”
Further details about the project can be found at the organization’s press release.
