Joseph Smith has earned his Mission Pilot Wings within the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit, according to a May 18 announcement from the agency.
Smith completed three years of work and specialized training, which included hundreds of hours of ground training in addition to flight training on the Bell Kiowa airframe. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Smith and reflects his commitment to advancing his skills as a pilot.
Smith serves as an officer at the Odenville Police Department and is also a reserve deputy with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. He is an Army Airborne veteran and holds several aviation credentials, including an FAA Private Fixed Wing Rating, as well as Private, Commercial, and Certified Flight Instructor Helicopter Ratings. He is currently working toward completing his Helicopter Instrument Rating at Wallace State.
The ceremony recognizing Smith’s accomplishment will be attended by his father Richard Smith along with his police chief and captain from Odenville Police Department.
This achievement highlights ongoing efforts within local law enforcement agencies to enhance specialized skills among their personnel.
