Representative Gary Palmer announced on May 18 that Ever Waites from Westminster School at Oak Mountain is the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Alabama’s Sixth District. The winning piece, titled “My Ebenezer,” was selected by a panel of artists from among student submissions across the district.

The competition highlights artistic talent among high school students and gives them an opportunity to showcase their work at a national level. Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors this nationwide event to encourage creativity in every congressional district.

Palmer presented Waites with an award certificate earlier in May and said, “We had a very talented group of students from across the district participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition. I’m impressed by each student’s hard work and dedication to their craft. Congratulations to Ever on winning the competition this year. I hope he continues to use his talent to create more art in the future.”

A virtual gallery featuring all entries from Alabama’s Sixth District is available on Palmer’s website until May 31, with additional viewing options on his Facebook page. The winning artwork is displayed at the top of the online gallery.

Gary Palmer has served as U.S. Representative for Alabama’s 6th District since replacing Spencer Bachus in 2015, according to Gary Palmer’s official site. He was born in Hackleburg, Alabama in 1954 and currently resides in Hoover after graduating from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
